Happy Smile for Teachers
This page is mainly directed towards preschool and kindergarten teachers, but may also be interesting to others. It's a collection of fun activities that you can do with children, and
give them information on oral health topics at the same time. Enjoy! :-)
  • storytelling
e.g a day in the life of a preschooler in which the toothbrushing moments
    take a central place
  • puppetshow
    (oral health topic)
  • book with pictures and drawings
e.g. taking care of the body as central theme
  • board on the wall with drawings, pictures, images
let children decide what needs to go with what time of the day (morning,
    evening; go to bed)
  • colorplates (also see kids pages)
  • glue, for instance have children stick teeth into a face
  • discuss the teeth of animals and show the variety
  • role play
for instance let children act out how a visit to the dentist could go
  • hand out toothbrushing awards and let children color them in
  • make a sheet with toothbrushesand days of the week in which children can color for instance a smile image after brushing their teeth
  • make a container with different food items (either real or artificial); let the children make a selection in two containers with a smile or sad face to discern healthy choices
for teeth (make sure you have done your homework for this one! :-)))
  • group conversation with questions, for instance: all the things you can do with your mouth:
eating, biting, chewing, swallowing, tasting, drinking, sucking, licking,
rinsing, talking, singing, screaming, laughing, crying, stick out your
tongue, blowing, yawning, whistling, kissing, spitting, making faces ... :-)
function of tongue, lips, cheeks, palate, front teeth, back teeth, gums,
    saliva
  • making a trophy cup for the teeth
  • making masks: laughing, crying ...
and use it to discuss oral health with the children
  • eating an apple and seeing the impressions of teeth in the apple
  • domino game (oral health topics)
  • cut out drawings / pictures and paste it on cardboard to make a puzzle (oral health topic)
  • make a mobile (oral health topic)
  • story of King Sweettooth, who goes to the dentist with a sore tooth; the children are giving advice to the king
  • toothbrush songs; click here for ideas or try these:

    tune of teapot song:
I'm a little toothbrush, soft and small
not too hard and not too tall
after every meal you will hear me shout
put some paste on - clean about!

    tune of: Are you sleeping?:
    Dr. Danny
    Always tells me
    Brush your teeth (2x)
    Brush them in the morning
    And again at bedtime
    Brush your teeth (2x)
