Structure your meals to three times a day and don't snack more than two times in between meals.
Always follow the advice of your doctor and general health recommendations.
However, there are some things you may not be aware of: |
- fruit juices are very acidic and dissolve the enamel
- fruit juices also contain a lot of sugar
- all carbonated drinks are acidic and dissolve the enamel
(added sugar makes it worse)
- cheese raises the pH level in the mouth and thus protects the teeth (also with calcium)
- yoghurt is acidic, but because of high calcium level, not detrimental to teeth
(unless sugar is added)
- if you eat fruit (acid + sugar), it is less damaging for teeth if you add yoghurt
- if you eat sweets, eat them all in one go and do not spread them over the day
(it takes time for the saliva to restore after the acid attack following sweet consumption)
- in the USA most food items have added sugar
- moderate use of xylitol chewing gum can protect the teeth, but not replace brushing
